Cadet Mentors

BE A MENTOR!

Get into the game and become a mentor! One of our major initiatives for 2003 was the establishment of specific mentor linkage between alumni and Cadets. In this way we, as alumni, can add value to the student and Cadet experience by sharing the life lessons we learned as students, Cadets and Army officers.

Our objective is three-fold.

First, we help the current crop of Cadets.
Second, we give back to the university by aiding current students and becoming part of what Northeastern offers to these outstanding young men and women. Lastly, we create a tradition of mentorship for all NU ROTC alumni and all Cadets and new Army officers.

We hope that, in the long term, the assigned mentor and the Cadet will stay in touch with each other throughout their student life and their military and professional life.

We now have some 30 alumni who have signed up and have been matched with freshman and sophomore (MSI and MSII) Cadets. Many mentors live far from Boston and this will be a "virtual" relationship. Others have ready access to NU and have or will meet with "their" Cadets. By making use of the electronic tools at our disposal, we hope to "invent" a way of alumni involvement with NU that will grow over time. As the Cadets move on in their military lives, the virtual connection will be vital. We are just starting a new wave!

In 2008, we are looking to revise our program and are working with LTC McClellan to sign up Juniors. We are particularly interested in recently commissioned Cadets and those that have or are currently deployed. Our target date is April 2008 so if you're interested in helping out, contact LT Rebecca Babcock at the email address below.

We can always use more mentors. As our ranks grow, we can help more Cadets.
